They used to give them concerts, local people used to stand on the farm carts and sing and that kind of thing and the men were all invited to people’s homes ... I remember at one of the concerts, impromptu concerts that were given for the troops, I suppose it hasn’t changed really they did it in the last war as well, I remember one of our neighbours, Nora Waite, she stood there and she sang and twirled around a lot and I thought she was pretty marvellous and I believe she sang ‘Oh you beautiful doll', but she certainly had a very good reception. |
