The Railway Company said, ‘All men who volunteered to join the Forces, we will give them their job back if they come back home afterwards’. Right. We came back home, they gave us our jobs and instead of trying to catch up like how you’d expect them to do, to make up for lost time with the things on the Railway that they’d missed, they decided to cut down like they’re doing now, and we was on 3 days a week, 4 days a week and then after about, what, June 1921, I started back in May 1919 and in June 1921 everything was forgotten and they started sacking us left and right.
