At the conclusion of the sports the prizes were presented to the winning competitors by Mrs. D H. Earl. After the prizegiving ceremony Major General T.D. O’Snow proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Earl for so kindly giving away the prizes and also to Mr C.L.Mason for having taken so much trouble in getting up the sports. He also took the opportunity to thank Wolverton people on behalf of the 4th Division for the very cordial reception they had given the Division during their stay in Wolverton. They had given of your best, except the weather of Tuesday last, which they could not brag much about after. He assured them that when they left Wolverton on their ramble and afterwards return to their various stations, they would take away a very very happy remembrance of their stay here. He then called for three cheers for Mrs Earl and one for Mr Mason, which was heartily given.

Mr H.D.Earl replied on behalf of Mrs Earl and thanked General O’Snow and the audience for the very hearty vote of thanks accorded to his wife. Mr Mason in his reply said he wished to thank General O’Snow for his kindness in allowing the troops to take part in the sports and also the officers who had given up the great part of the little leisure time they had while on divisional training in order to work for the success of the demonstration. He was sure the people of Wolverton were delighted to have the troops in the neighbourhood and he was certain that at the end of the week when they left the whole of the town would go into mourning.(laughter)
