Pitched Roofs – Brand makes the point that pitched roofs protect the buildings most effectively. Although here the original flat roofs were sufficiently well-built to not prove to be problematic, almost half the bungalows have recently adopted pitched, tiled roofs. Again, although Brand recommends simplicity in design, the complexity forced on builders by the ‘H-shape’ design breaks up the roof-lines and makes them visually acceptable – even attractive.
