17. The Door Finish

front door

The original owners either painted or wood grained their front doors. The door frame was often painted with a contrasting colour. The colour or wood grain you choose for your door is your opportunity for self-expression! Don’t hold back. Be bold! Panel mouldings may be picked out with a contrasting colour, but this needs to be done with care. Original doors were made of pine. Stripped pine was not the original finish, this is a 20th century fashion.

Replacing your front door will require planning permission
