18. Door Furniture

Door furniture was originally of polished or dull brass or painted cast iron. Don’t strip the paint off cast iron doorknockers or letterboxes. This exposes them to rust. They would have been painted.
Door furniture may include:
  • Knockers
  • Knobs
  • Post box covers
  • Fingerplates – these can be upright or horizontal, plain or decorated brass or painted metal.
    Keyhole covers and plates.
