Next to some doors you will sometimes find an inset painted cast-iron boot scraper in a small niche. Foot scrapers were cast in a wide variety of decorative patterns. Often a group of houses or a street will have boot scrapers of the same pattern. These vividly recall the days when walking the streets could make your boots or shoes muddy. If your boot scraper has been removed and the niche is empty, replacement boot scrapers can be found in reclaim yards or bought from companies who still make them.
