Next to some doors you will sometimes find an inset painted cast-iron boot scraper in a small niche. Foot scrapers were cast in a wide variety of decorative patterns. Often a group of houses or a street will have boot scrapers of the same pattern. These vividly recall the days when walking the streets could make your boots or shoes muddy.
