25. Out the Back!

The ‘barn’, in the yard at the back of the house, housed the water closet and coalhole and sometimes, the copper. The barn, the yard and the garden path leading to the backway were often paved with blue engineering bricks. Some houses in Wolverton, especially end of terraces, retain the brick built outbuildings that included stabling, a workshop and sometimes a hayloft. If you have one of these, preserve it carefully and enjoy your own piece of local history.

Remember all large trees in the Conservation Area are protected and you need planning permission to fell or lop a tree.
