Twyford Local History Group

Twyford is a village and civil parish in the Aylesbury Vale district of Buckinghamshire about 2 miles west of Steeple Claydon and 4 miles northeast of Bicester. The name derives from Old English and means ‘double ford’ and refers to the double ford by which the old road from Twyford to Cowley crosses the two streams at Twyford Mill.

The parish church of the Assumption of the Blesséd Virgin Mary is 12th-century and is a Grade I listed building. A further eight buildings in Twyford are listed including the Mill.

Flora Thompson, the author of Lark Rise to Candleford, is said to have worked briefly at the Old Post Office in 1895.
