The Coram Foundation was the personal creation of a former sea captain, philanthropist and ship builder and was like no other orphanage in the country or abroad. Thousands went into this institution and yet because of its unique short birth certificate, many do not realise their relatives were there.

Colin Oakes will tell the story of its conception, development and subsequent move out of London in 1923 to Surrey, then Hertfordshire before it comes back to London in a different form. Lastly we look at its 1938-2019 role, and the problem of the Coram museum.

All are welcome. £4 for non-members.
