WORLEY CHARITY

An extract from the will of Mary Ann Worley .
I bequeath the sum of £400 unto the said James Riley and William Johnson upon trust to invest the same in the 3% consolidated Bank Annuities and to apply the dividends in keeping the Family Tomb and the railings and fence thereof and the Monumental tablets to the memory of my late husband and children and myself, at Castlethorpe aforesaid in good condition and substancial repair and to distribute the unapplied part of such dividends from time to time among such poor Widows and Old Maids residing at Castlethorpe aforesaid as my Trustees shall think most deserving.

This Charity was left by Mrs. Edward Augustine Worley who died September 10th 1859 aged 74 years. Leaving a will dated February 10th 1859, with a codicil dated May 11th 1859.
The executors were William Johnson (gentleman) Deanshanger & Passenham Northants.
James Riley (gentleman) Chicheley Bucks. (The latter did not prove).
Probate was obtained at Oxford October 21st 1859, and since that date the requirements of the will have been carried out in the first place by Mr. Johnson and after his death by his daughters, the last of whom died in November 1908, when the Trusteeship fell to Mrs. Rosa Johnson who refused to accept it, and through her solicitors - Messrs. Field & Roscoe, it was placed in the hands of the Charity Commisioners who took it over December 2nd 1910.

In accordance with the scheme, we the undersigned have been appointed by the Parish Council to act as Trustees for three years. Ellen Markham, Hugh Mapley, James Marsh, Louisa Whiting, appointed by the Charity Commision.
