1st HANSLOPE

Saturday April 22nd 1989

Milton Keynes North District 5-A-Side Competition

We met at the HQ at 8.30am. and parents then took our warriors to Stantonbury Leisure Centre where battle was to commence. It was fitting therefore that the Hanslope teams should be dressed in such a fine kit. Once the teams were changed we settled down at a suitable spot eager and ready for our first round matches.

Hanslope "A" was the first to play against Great Linford "A" last years winners, and favourite to repeat their success. The game developed into an end to end battle which Hanslope lost 2 - 0, but they did however have a chance to take the lead with a penalty when the score was 0 - 0 , but the Great Linford goalkeeper saved well.

Hanslope "B" played Stantonwood and despite their brave effort were outplayed in all departments and lost by 2 - 0 as well. However despite their obvious disappointment both teams were determined to go into their next matches and do their best. The "A" side having reformed their defence played some superb football to win one game and draw the other. With P. Brown and Justin Harding scoring fine goals in their 2 - 0 win. This was to take them into the Qtr. Finals.

The "B" team were not so lucky, all though they tried to the extent of exhaustion they were to lose one and draw the other of their remaining games. Howard Cox scoring a fine goal in the drawn match.

The Qtr. Final match saw Hanslope "A" and Stantonwood fight out an evenly fought match with the score ending 0 - 0, but penalties from Justin Harding and Carl Dillow and an excellent save from Paul Redman saw them through to the Semi Final stages.

This brought a return match with Great Linford 'A' and as much as they tried Great Linford again overpowered Hanslope and beat us 2 - 0 again. Great Linford then went on to win the Final 1 - 0 against Wolverton.

This was not only a test of their character but also a test of their sportsmanship and team work. Hanslope Cub Scouts once again proved just how fine a Pack they are and should be proud of their achievement in getting to the Semi Final. Thanks also go to the parents for their support in the event.
