Milton Keynes North District Cub Scouting Quiz

First Round

Held at United reform Church Hall Newport Pagnell

Our team was to have competed against Bradville Stantonbury Pack but they failed to show up. This meant we automatically went through to the second round. We stayed to see a match between Stony Stratford ‘Mohicans’ and 5th Newport Pagnell so that the boys had some idea of the organisation and questions. In each team were 4 cub scouts each asked one question in each of six rounds. Bonus points could be gained by answering the question their own opponent failed to answer correctly.

We left Hanslope at 6.0p.m. for 6.30 Quiz Start and we returned at approx 8.30p.m.

Friday 18th November

Second Round

Held at United Reform Church Hall Newport Pagnell

After a draw we found out our opponents were 1st Wolverton.

Our team gave a wonderful account of themselves and after the 5th round had out themselves into a position where Wolverton could not win the match. We scored 39 points to Wolverton’s 25 and won our way into the Semi Final against one of the following Packs. Stoke Goldington, Haversham, Stony Stratford ‘Mohicans’.

We left Hanslope at 6.0p.m. for 6.30 Quiz start arriving home at approx 8.15p.m. after consuming large bags of steaming chips.

Unfortunately David Owen could not attend because of illness but Mark Boatwright filled the breach admirably.

Friday Dec 12th 1983

Semi Final & Final

Held at United Reform Church Hall Newport Pagnell

After Akela had been involved in the draw we found our opponents were to be Stoke Goldington. After the 3rd round we found ourselves just in front but Stoke Goldington made a determined effort over the last 3 rounds to win by 37 points to 29. We remained at the quiz after refreshment break to see the final between Stoke Goldington and Haversham. Stoke Goldington eventually became the District Champions after easily defeating their opponents. It was consoling to know that we had given a good account of ourselves in the Semi Final against the eventual Quiz Champions.

We left Hanslope at 6.0 p.m. for 6.30 Quiz start arriving home at 8.15p.m., defeated but in good spirits after an enjoyable experience.
