Milton Keynes North 5 A Side Competition

We set off for Stantonbury Leisure Centre at 10-10a.m. and arrived at 10-25. On arrival we were rushed into the changing room, where we were repeatedly harassed to get to the hall for our first game. Therefore when the team did start their first match they did so without pre-match tactical talk. The first minute saw Hanslope concede a penalty which was well saved by Mark. Almost instantly we were awarded a penalty which saw Brendan’s shot saved by Stony Stratford keeper. With the ball then being played from end to end, with the Hanslope team showing grit and determination to hold off a fine Stony side. Mark playing exceptionally well in goal and Edwin dictating the play from defence Brendan and Will never stopping in the middle and Tait weaving around up front in a hope to find that all important gap. Despite all their efforts the game finished as a 0 – draw. So it was down to “Penalties”. Stony took the first and scored, Brendan stepped up and coolly and stroked the ball home, Stony then missed and Will stepped up with the opportunity to win the match, alas he missed. Stony then scored which left Tait the unenviable task to score. Unfortunately he missed and we were out of the competition.

Obviously they were all disappointed but it must be said that the Stony Stratford side was one of the best sides in the competition. They were only beaten in the Semi Final stages and our side was the only team able to contain their formidable strike force who scored in all their other matches.

Throughout the day the Hanslope cubs showed great sportsmanship watching and applauding all the other sides. The competition was eventually won by Neath Hill A side. One point of note, Kaa and Bagheera were both frightened out of their lives when they spotted a walking tangerine in the changing room needless to say all was o.k. when it was revealed that it was Willy floundering around in an oversize football shirt. Once again great credit to all concerned that did their best.
