Ramble in Woburn Park on Part of the Greensand Ridge Walk

Walking through Woburn
Halfway stop in Woburn Park
Hopefully secluded spot to play Rounders

We met at 9.0a.m. in the Headquarters and then set off in the three vehicles to travel to Woburn. The pack had invited the Fathers who had helped the Group to Way Mark the Hanslope Parish footpaths to accompany us on our ramble.

Having parked near the Church in Woburn we set off for the 4 mile walk. The weather was overcast with intervals of light rain but in beautiful surroundings it did not spoil our enjoyment. The route took us through Woburn Deer Park where many deer were seen, but it was noticeable that they remained well away from the interested Pack.

We made our way through woods and fields and back into the Park passing the famous Woburn Abbey House. A dead fish was spotted in a lake which resulted in a debate between the fishing experts on the species, Akela being very helpful in stating it was definitely not a fish finger. We then came upon a young deer that appeared to be dead, but on closer inspection was found to be alive but evidently ill. Later whilst playing Rounders, a Ranger was seen to visit this young deer and hopefully save the animal.

We made our way to a quiet and hopefully secluded spot to play Rounders. Each Six was supplemented with one willing father but unfortunately this extra skill did not appear to improve the usual terrible fielding and teamwork.

The game completed, we made our way back to the car park after a ramble in wonderful countryside on an excellent way marked footpath. We arrived back at the Headquarters at 1.0p.m.
