Cub Scout Fun Day at the ‘Quarries

To celebrate the 60 years that the Quarries Camp Site at Cosgrove has been used for Scouting the Quarries Committee organised special events during the year for all the sections of the Movement. Our Pack attended a Cub Scout Fun Day organised by the North and South Districts on the Saturday.

We met at 11.45 a.m. at the Headquarters and after the transport had been organised we set forth to join in the organised activities with our Cub Scout friends from many different Packs.

Although the 1st Hanslope Leaders had not volunteered to run a base activity we joined forces with the two 1st Wolverton Packs to help out on their Secret Agent Base. Having organised our base camp for the day we sat down to enjoy our packed lunches. Suitably fortified the Cub Scouts formed small groups and visited the bases around the site.

Great fun was had on the Assault Course, Tracking Trail, Indian Face Painting and Hats, Knotting, Archery, Secret Agent, Cooking.

The Camp Shop was also open for business together with a Scout Badge stall. Our Cub Scouts seemed to circulate and enjoy the activities despite the occasional rain showers between sunny spells.

After returning to our base and finishing off the remains of the food from lunchtime, the Leaders of 1st Wolverton and 1st Hanslope organised a Wide Game. Thus an energy sapping Wide Game called ‘The Vanishing Post Box’ was played all over the site between 1st Hanslope Pack, Timbers Pack and Prairie Pack (1st Wolverton).

We then retired to the Camp Fire Circle to enjoy a happy hour singing and laughing at the Stunts with our fellow Cub Scouts and visiting parents.

We returned to the Headquarters at 7.30 p.m. after a very enjoyable day out at the Fun Day.
