The Dorothy Cook Competition

Held at 1st Wolverton Scout Hall

We assembled at 8.45 a.m. at the Headquarters for a 9.30 a.m. Competition start.

13 Packs entered the Competition, 1st Stony Stratford Mohicans & Cherokees, 1st Wolverton Timber & Prairies, 4th Newport Pagnell Invincibles & Beaties 3rd Newport Pagnell, Stanton Wood Hawkes & Eagles, 1st Olney, Two Mile Ash & Great Holm Viking, 5th Newport Pagnell and 1st Hanslope.

Situated around the hall were 13 Test Stations to test the Cub Scouts on Scouting Skills where points were to be awarded to find the eventual winners. Thus the teams of 6 Cub Scouts visited each Test Station in turn where they were tested on Kim’s Game – Inspection – First Aid – Road Safety – Water Safety – Scouting – Country Code – Handcrafts – Map Reading – Home Safety – Knotting – Flags & Emblems and Local Knowledge. Akela, Baloo and Kaa had volunteered to run the Local Knowledge which our team did not have to visit.

At the halfway stage our team seemed to be doing well and after refreshments returned to the Competition in good heart for the final effort.

Our team retuned to our base to await the result of their morning’s work. Paul Swannell A.D.C. Cub Scouts then announced that Two Mile Ash & Great Holm Viking Pack had been victorious gaining 110¾pts with 1st Hanslope Second with 108 pts, 3rd were 1st Olney 101pts. (Last year’s winners) and Stanton Wood Hawkes were in 4th place with 97 pts.

For the second year running we had come second with only a few points separating us from the Champions. Our team had definitely done their best and had enjoyed a very competitive competition with their Cub Scout friends from the District. We returned home to Hanslope at 12.30 a.m. satisfied with our efforts.
