Elizabeth Knapp 1750

This is the last Will and Testament of me Elizabeth Knapp Widow and Relict of John Knapp late of Little Linford in the County of Bucks Esquire deceased which I make and ordain in manner and form following (that is to say) first I will that all my just Debts and expenses of my Funeral paid and discharged next I give and bequeath unto my Sister Christian Calvert the Sum of One Hundred Pounds Also I give and bequeath unto my Sister Mary Calvert the Sum of One Hundred pounds next I give and bequeath unto my Brother in Law Matthew Knapp and Catherine his Wife the Sum of Twenty pounds a piece next I give and bequeath unto Primatt Knapp One of the Sons of my said Brother in Law Matthew Knapp the sum of One Thousand Pounds to be paid him at his Age of Twenty one Years also I give and bequeath unto Humphrey Knapp another of the Sons of my said Brother in Law Matthew Knapp the Sum of Five Hundred Pounds to be paid him at his Age of Twenty one Years but if the said Primatt and Humphrey Knapp or either of them shall by the Direction and Approbation  of their said Father and Mother or the Superior of them be placed out to any Imployment or Business and their or either of their Legacy or Legacys shall be deemed necessary by their Father and Mother or the Survivor of them for that purpose then I direct that the whole or any part of such a Legacy or Legacys of the said Primatt or Humphrey shall be paid and Applied at such Time by and with the Consent of their said Father and Mother or the Survivor of them also I give and bequeath unto Catherine James Mary Sarah Ann and Charlott Knapp five of the Daughters of my said Brother in Law Matthew Knapp the Sum of Fifteen Hundred Pounds to be equally divided between them at their Ages of Twenty one Years or Days of Marriage respectively which shall first happen and in Case any or either of them the said Catherine James Mary Sarah Ann and Charlott shall happen to die before her or their part or share of the said Fifteen Hundred Pounds shall become due and payable I will that the part or share of her or them so dying shall go to and be equally divided between the Survivors or Survivor of them also I give and bequeath unto the said Catherine James the Further Sum of Two Hundred Pounds Also I give and bequeath unto the said Annette Knapp the further Sum of Four Hundred Pounds Also I give and bequeath unto my Brother in Law Robert Knapp Doctor of Phisick the sum of One Hundred pounds next I give and bequeath unto Matthew Lee Doctor of phisick and George Wrighte of Gotehurst [Gayhurst] in the County of Bucks Esquire the sum of One Thousand Pounds Upon Trust Les and the Survivor of them and the Executors or Administrators of such Survivor do as soon as conveniently may be after my decease place and the same out at Interest upon real or Government Securities and the Interest or produce  thereof from Time to Time pay to or apply the same for the use of my said Brother in Law Robert Knapp for and during his natural Life and immediately after his decease Upon Trust that they my said Trustees and the Survivor of them his Executors or Administrators shall pay the said principal Sum of One Thousand Pounds unto my Niece Elizabeth Knapp (Another Daughter of my said Brother in Law Matthew Knapp her Executors and Administrators) Also I give and bequeath unto the said Elizabeth Knapp the Daughter of the said Matthew Knapp the Sum of Tree Thousand Pounds next I give and bequeath unto the said Matthew Lee and George Wright the further Sum of One Thousand pounds Upon Trust that they and the Survivor of them  and the Executors and Administrators of such Survivor do and shall as soon as may be after my decease place the last mentioned Sum of One Thousand pounds out at Interest on real or Government Security and the Interest or produce thereof do and shall from Time to Time pay unto Diana Knapp Widow and Relict of my late Brother in Law George Knapp deceased and immediately after her Decease Upon Trust that they my said Trustees and the Survivor of them his Executors or Administrators do and shall pay the said last Mentioned Sum of one Thousand Pounds unto Ann Diana and Elizabeth Knapp Three Daughters of my said Brother in Law George Knapp deceased in equal Shares and Portions And in Case any or either of the said Daughters of the said George Knapp decease shall happen to die before her part or share of the said sum of One Thousand Pounds shall become payable I will and direct that the share of her so dying shall be paid to the surviving two Daughters in equal Proportions or Share and Share alike but if two of the said Daughters of the said George Knapp deceased shall die before their Mother the said Diana Knapp then I will and direct that my said Trustees and the Survivor of them and the Executors or Administrators of such Survivor shall pay the said last mentioned Sum of one Thousand Pounds unto such surviving Daughter of the said George Knapp deceased and John Knapp son of the said George Knapp in equal proportions Share and Share alike also I give unto the said John Knapp the sum of Five Hundred Pounds also I give and bequeath unto the said Ann Diana and Elizabeth Knapp the Three Daughters of the said George Knapp deceased the Sum of Six Hundred Pounds to be equally divided between them next I give and bequeath unto my Sister the said Diana Knapp and Catherine Knapp and the said Doctor Mathew Lee and his Wife Twenty Pounds a Piece Also I give to the said Matthew Lee and George Wrighte the Sum of One Hundred Pounds a piece And I will and declare that the said Matthew Lee and George Wrighte or either of them shall not be Answerable for any Involuntary Loss that may happen of the said sums of one Thousand Pounds and One Thousand Pounds or either of them or any part of them or either of them nor one of them for the other of them or the Acts Receipts Payment or Defaults of the other of them but each of them for himself and his own Acts Receipts and defaults only and that it shall be lawful for them and each of them and their respective Executors and Administrators to retain out of the said Sums of one Thousand Pounds and One Thousand Pounds or either of them or the Interest of either of them All such Costs and Expenses as they any or either of them shall expend or be put to in or about the Execution of the Trusts hereby in them reposed Next I give unto the Poor of Little Linford aforesaid Ten Pounds to be distributed at the Direction of my Executrix hereinafter named also I give to the Poor of Shenley in the County of Bucks the Sum of Ten Pounds to be distributed by my Executrix next I give and bequeath unto my Cousin Alice Forth the Sum of Twenty Pounds next I give and bequeath unto my Two Maid Servants Mary Tossell and Lucey Warwick Twenty Pounds a Piece next ( I give and bequeath unto my Nephew Matthew Knapp eldest Son of my said a Brother in Law Matthew Knapp all for the Household Goods and Furniture whatsoever being in and about my Mansion House in little Linford aforesaid which was my late Husbands Also I give and bequeath unto him my said Nephew Matthew Knapp All my Jewels and Plate ( Except my Gold Watch) And also all order all my Hay Corn Wood Coaches Chariots Chaise Horses Cattle Stock and Effects whatsoever being in and about my said Mansion House Grounds and Premises in my own occupation (except my Linnen and Books) Also I give unto my late servant Mary the Wife of Philip Miles Ten Pounds lastly my Gold Watch Linnen Books and all the Rest residue and remainder of my Goods Chattels and Estate of whatsoever and wheresoever not herein before disposed of I give and bequeath unto the said Elizabeth Knapp ( Daughter of my said Brother in Law Matthew Knapp) her Executors and Administrators and I do hereby make ordain constitute and appoint the same Elizabeth Knapp (the Daughter of my said Brother in Law Matthew Knapp) sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament And I do hereby revoke disannul and make void all former and other Wills by me heretofore made and do declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Elizabeth Knapp the Testatrix have to this my last Will and Testament (the whole contained in this and the preceding Sheet of Paper) to each sheet set my Hand and to the Top of the first sheet and to this sheet affixed my Seal this Fifteenth Day of March One Thousand seven Hundred and Forty nine Eliz: Knapp Signed sealed published and declared by the said Elizabeth Knapp the Testatrix for and as her last
