The Last Will and Testament of John Knapp of Little Linford in the County of Buckinghamshire Imprimis Whereas upon my Marriage so I did settle Five hundred Pounds Pr. Annum on my now Wife Elizabeth and in pursuance of a Covenant made by me upon the said Marriage I have settled Three hundred Pounds Pr. Ann as an Addition to her Jointure And Whereas my Wife’s Father Josiah Nicholson Esq.  has given to me since my said intermarriage the sum of Three thousand Pounds as an Increase to my said Wife’s Fortune In Consideration of which I have settled Tree hundred Pounds more Pr. Ann: as a father Augmentation of her Joynture which makes it to be full Eleven Hundred Pounds Pr: Ann: Now I do hereby ratifye and confirm the said respective Settlements and every part of them Item I order my Executrix hereinafter named and appointed to pay all my just Debts Legacies and Funerall Expences out of my Personal Estate and I do hereby charge my real Estate unsettled in Aid thereunto and after Payment of my Debts Legacys and Funeral Expences I give all my Personal Estate whatsoever that I shall have at my Death unto my said Wife Elizabeth I also Give and Devise unto my said Wife all my Real Estate wheresoever that I shall have at my decease to have and to hold my said Real Estate during her Natural Life but in case she has a Mind to give One thousand Pounds to my Family I do hereby give her Power to raise the same by Mortgaging any part of my real Estate and from and after the decease of my said Wife Elizabeth I give and devise all my real Estate whatsoever to my Brother in Law Doctor Mathew Lee and my Cousin Matthew Skinner Esqr. Serjeant at Law unto the Survivor of them and to the Heirs of such Survivor in Trust for her that out of the Rents and Profitts  thereof they pay and discharge such sum of Money as my Wife Elizabeth shall raise on the said Real Estate by Virtue of the Power given her by this my Will and after Payment of such Money Then In Trust and to the Use and Behoof of my Nephew Matthew Knapp now the Eldest Son of my Brother Matthew Knapp for the Term of his Natural Life with the Power to limitt the same to any Woman he shall Marry in Joynture according to the Proportion of Eighty Pounds Pr. Annum for every Thousand Pounds that he shall receive as the Portion of such Woman in Marriage Provided the same do not Exceed Ten Thousand Pounds and likewise with Power to Lease or demise the same for any Term not exceeding Twenty one Years at the most improved  Rent without receiving any Fine upon any Lease or Renewall And from and after the Determination of the Estate then the to the Use and behoof of the said Matthew Lee and Matthew Skinner and the Survivor of them and the Heirs of such Survivor during the Life of the said Matt Knapp to preserve  the Contingent  remainders here in after limitted from being destroyed and to make Entry for the same Purpose but to permitt and suffer the said Matthew Knapp to receive the Profitts and Premises during his Life and from and after the decease of the said Matthew Knapp then to the Use and Behoof of the first Son of the said Matthew Knapp lawfully to be begotten and to the Heirs Male of such first Son lawfully Issuing And for default of such Issue to her all and every other Son or Sons of the said Matthew Knapp severally and successively in order and course as they shall be in Seniority of Age and Priority of Birth and the several Heirs Male of the several and respective Bodys of all such Sons in such sir out as the Elder of the said Sons and the Heirs Male of his Body be always preferred before the Younger and the Heirs Male of his Body And for default of such Issue then to the Use and behoof of my Nephew Primatt Knapp the second Son of my Brother Matthew Knapp for the Term of his Natural Life with the Power to Limitt the same to any Woman he shall Marry in Joynture in the same Proportion and to  Lease or Demise the same with the like Power and Restrictions as are herein given and Prescribed before to my Nephew Matthew Knapp and from and after the Determination of that Estate to the Use and Behoof of the said Matthew Lee and Matthew Skinner and the Survivor of them and the Heirs of such Survivor during the Life of the said Primatt Knapp Son of my Brother Matt Knapp to preserve the contingent Remainders hereinafter limited from being destroyed and to make Entry for the same purpose but to permit the said Primatt Knapp to receive the Profitts of the Premises during his Life and from and after the Death of the said Primatt Knapp then to the Use and Behoof of the first Son of the said Primatt Knapp lawfully to be begotten and to the Heirs Male of such Son lawfully Issuing and for default  of such Issue to all and every other the Son or Sons of the said Primatt Knapp severally and successively in order and course as they shall be in Seniority of Age and Priority of Birth and the several Heirs Male of the several and respective Bodys of all such Sons in such sort as the Elder of the said Sons and the Heirs Male of his Body be oh preferred before the Younger and the Heirs Male of his Body And in Default of such Issue then the to the Use and Behoof of my Nephew Humphrey Knapp third Son of my Brother Matthew Knapp for the Term of his Natural Life with the like Power of or limitting the same to any Woman he shall Marry in the same Proportion and to Lease and Demise the same with the like Powers and Restrictions as are herein before given and prescribed to my other two Nephews and from and after the Determination of that Estate then to the Use and Behoof of the said Matthew Lee and Matthew Skinner and the Survivor of them and the Heirs of such Survivor during the Life of the said Humphrey Knapp to preserve the contingent Remainders hereinafter limitted from being destroyed and to make entry for the same Purpose but to Permit the said Humphrey Knapp to receive the Profitts of the Premises for and during his Life and from and after the Death of the said Humphrey Knapp then to the Use and behoof of the first Son of the said Humphrey Knapp lawfully to be begotten and to the Heirs Male of such Son lawfully Issuing and for Default of such Issue to all and every other the Son or Sons of the said Humphrey Knapp severally and successively in Order and course had as they shall be in Seniority of Age and Priority of Birth and the several Heirs Male of the several respective Bodys of all such Sons in such sort as the Eldest of the said Sons and the Heirs Male of his Body be always preferred before the Younger and the Heirs Male of his Body And for default of such Issue then that to the Use and behoof of my Nephew John Knapp Son of my Brother John Knapp for and during the Term of his Natural Life with the like Power of Limiting the said Premises to any Woman in Marriage and of Leasing the and the same in the same Proportion and with the like Restrictions as are herein before given and prescribed to my nephew Matthew Primatt and Humphrey Knapp Sons of my Brother Matthew Knapp and from and after the Determination of that Estate then to the Use and behoof of the said a Mathew Lee and Matthew Skinner and the Survivor of them and the Heirs of such Survivor during the Life of the said John Knapp to preserve the contingent Remainders hereinafter limitted from being destroyed and to make Entry for the same Purpose but to permitt the said John Knapp to reserve the Profitts of the Premises during his Life and from and after the Death of the said John Knapp then to the Use and Behoof of the first Son of the said John Knapp lawfully to be begotten and to the Heirs Male of such Son lawfully Issuing And for Default of such Issue to all and every other the Son or Sons of the said John Knapp severally and sufficiently in order and course as they shall be in Seniority of Age and Priority of birth and the several Heirs Male of the several and respective Bodys of all such Sons in such Sort  as that the Eldest of the said Sons and the Heirs Male of his Body be always Preferred before her or the Younger and the Heirs Male of his Body And for default of such Issue Then to the Use and Behoof of my Brother Matthew Knapp during his Natural Life And from and after his decease Then to the Use and Behoof of my Brother Doctor Roby Knapp share and during his life And from and after his Death Then to the Use and Behoof of my Brother George Knapp during his Natural Life and from and after his decease Then to the Use and Behoof of my own Right Heirs for ever I Give unto my two Trustees my Brother Matthew Lee and my Cousin Matthew Skinner One hundred Pounds each in Consideration of the Trouble they will be put to in Execution of this Trust and my Will and Meaning is that my said Trustees should in no case suffer by this Trust and ‘tis my desire that in case there be Occasion they had to appoint a receiver to receive the Rents of the Premises taking security from such receiver and to Account with him every six Months and to place the Money out in any Government Security for the Benefit of such Person as shall be entitled thereunto by this my Will and if to any Loss shall happen such Person to bear the loss and not the Trustees I Give for to my Brother Matthew Knapp and his Wife Twenty Pounds each for Mourning I give unto my Brother Robert Knapp Twenty Pounds and I give to my Brother George Knapp and his Wife Twenty Pounds each I give unto my Sister Eliz: Whitfield Twenty Pounds and unto my Sister Catherine Knapp I give Twenty Pounds unto my Brother in Law Matthew Lee and to his Wife my Sister Lee I give Twenty Pounds each for Mourning I do make and appoint my Wife Elizabeth to be the sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament and desire I may be buried in the Vault in the Chappel in Little Linford And I hereby revoke all Wills formerly made by me In Witness whereof I the said John Knapp to this my last Will contained in three Sheets of Paper of my own hand Writing to the two first of which I have set my Name and to the third and last Sheet being fastned to the other two with my Seal I have sett my hand and Seal this fourth day of February 1740 John Knapp Signed and Sealed Published and declared by the within in the named Testator as and for his last Will and Testament it being contained in three Sheets of Paper in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request have subscribed our Names as Witnesses  the words (and Devise) whatsoever in the Eleventh line and the words (and Devise) in the Fourteenth Line of the First Sheet and the Word (other) in the first Line and the Word (Seniority)in the thirteenth line of the second Sheet and the Word (all) in the third Sheet being interlined before Sealing hereof William Sibley James Illis Edmund Green
