The walk, led by architect Pete Martin, will explore the integration of the building of the new city with the Manor and the historical core of the village and will look at the recommendations of the Milton Keynes Development Corporation Villages Study team published in 1974 and its implementation.

The walk is approximately 2.5 miles and will take about 1.5 hours.

Great Linford is considered by many to be the most successful of the 11 expanded villages within the MK designated area. Starting with the Manor and grounds we will touch on the history, the coming of the canal and the railway and the past and current uses before proceeding along the High Street. We will pass the Old Rectory, the Manse and the original Village School. We will see how new uses and development link into the street. Detouring to one of the distributor roads along paths that join new development to the village core we will see new housing and glimpse the local centre before returning to the triangular Village Green where roads from Little Woolstone, Willen, Linford Wood and Newport Pagnell met. We will walk through Hazelwood (a Civic Trust awarded housing scheme) and France Furlong to Solar Court (the second solar heated housing scheme in MK), the Village Cricket Green, the Memorial Hall and back into the Manor grounds where archaeological digs are taking place to inform the restoration of aspects of the grounds.

We will be looking at work by a variety of architects, local and national, including Martin Richardson, Frost Nicholls and MacCormac, Jamieson and Prichard as well as that of the Development Corporation themselves.
