Iron Age Pottery in the South Midlands

This course will provide an introduction to the identification and interpretation of Iron Age pottery assemblages found in the South Midlands area. The course will cover the following

  • Identifying and dating Iron Age pottery
  • The basics of pottery recording, including fabrics, forms, and different kinds of decoration
  • Hands-on experience and exercises with Iron Age pottery

Participants will have the opportunity to work with Iron Age pottery from sites in the South Midlands, with tuition provided by Dr Adam Sutton (Iron Age and Roman pottery specialist for MOLA Northampton).

Tuition fees for the day are £10 (those in full-time education can attend for free), with the numbers limited to 15 people. The course is aimed at amateur archaeologists, whose bookings will be given priority.
