The Society is particularly proud of its photograph collection and some of these go back to the earliest photographs being taken in the area. There is also for instance a substantial collection of items relating to Taylor's Mustard manufacturing and to the breweries in the town. The Society is also proud to have memorabilia relating to The Oddfellows Society, whose former meeting Hall and headquarters the Society now owns: and to Salmons' business, which eventually became Aston Martin, two names which the town is very proud to be associated with.

Newport Pagnell's past includes the arrival and departure of transport by coach and horse, canal and rail. The collection contains records of all three. The last of these was last seen in the 1960s. Newport Pagnell also featured in the earliest development of the motorway, i.e. the M1.

We are always very pleased to receive new items and to add these to the collection for the benefit of the town.

It is usually not possible to borrow artefacts, documents or books from the collection. However, if there is a special arrangement, accommodation for this can be organised. Nevertheless either by appointment at another time or at our open afternoons once a month on a sunday there is the chance to talk to members of the Society's committee about items in the collection, though it may not always be possible to show items that are not part of the current exhibition unless there has been prior notice.

You will find details of the whole of the Society's collection on this web site.

The Newport Pagnell Historical Society has been very fortunate since its formation in 1984 to be given or loaned a huge variety of artefacts and documents relevant to the history and heritage of Newport Pagnell. Many of these are unique and of great importance. Some of the items have of necessity been passed on to the County Museum in Aylesbury and some to the Milton Keynes Museum in Wolverton, as the Society either does not have room or the correct facility to store them. Nevertheless the Society is very proud of the collection at Chandos Hall.

The majority of the items in the museum are stored in themes in boxed units. The units' contents has been recorded for access and reference and show whether items are donated or loaned.

Some of the items are costumes and clothing and these are stored separately. These items tend to be used in our exhibitions. The Museum also has on display prints and paintings, which again relate to Newport Pagnell's history.

The collection also contains a small library of books about the history of Newport Pagnell and surrounding area. This library also includes copies of the Society's own publications, some of which are now out of print.
