A few past images of Olney Market Place

  • Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee - 1887

The Olney and District Historical Society was founded in 1997 by a group of like-minded people determined to keep the history of the town and its environs alive for all generations of people living in the town and those who have since left the town.

The main function of the Society in recent years has been to provide a series of talks each year, together with an annual outing to an historic site. The meetings are held in the Olney Centre, which is situated on the west side of the High Street approximately half a mile North of the Market Place.

Life in the town has changed beyond recognition during the last century or so. Consequently, an aim of the Society is to record images, documents and reminiscences of inhabitants before such information is lost forever. Although in the past the Society has published several books, material is now presented mainly via this extensive web site.
