Purchasing Paradise: the money that financed the great gardens

Buckinghamshire Gardens Trust

Saturday, 18th January 2020 from 2.30 to 4.30 pm
Bucks County Museum, Church Street, Aylesbury HP20 2QP

Speaker: Professor Sir Roderick Floud. Professor Floud is an economic historian and fellow of many academic institutions. His book, An Economic History of the English Garden, was published by Allen Lane in November 2019.

An Economic History of the English Garden draws on never-seen primary sources to explore how much gardens cost to make and to maintain; how many gardeners tend to particular gardens; the prices of plants sold by nurseries, or imported from far-flung corners of the world; where the plants come from, what tools and techniques were used to create them and how they were invented.

£12 for guests. Includes tea/coffee and cakes at the end with a chance to talk to the speaker and fellow members.
