*The plaque is inscribes 'VR 1863'. The house is identified from an old photograph handed down by descendants of George Bliss, now in Australia.

Notes

  1. George Bliss & family moved from the 'Bulls Head' at Eakley Lanes to 'The Plough' at Hartwell late 1851 / early 1852
  2. Geoge Bliss & family moved from 'The Plough' at Hartwell to the 'Forest Retreat' at Eakley Lanes c.1863, after about 11 years.
  3. The Duke of Grafton owned the 'Bulls Head' and probably also 'The Plough' and possibly influenced the move to Hartwell.
