Lead roof 1994

1994. This shows an unusual roofing system of taking the lead from one side over the apex and down the other side in one length. This causes expansion. Leaks occurred because the lead sheets were not correctly over-lapped. The patch of lead in centre of picture was made to cover the aperture where the chimney pipe from the stove once came through. The dark bands visible where the lead sheets join is fibre glass and resin to prevent further leakage. The roof has now been completely replaced (2002).

South arcade roof before renewal of leadwork. Notice the patches and deterioration around the turrets (2 of which were replaced 2002).
