Sundial in the grounds near the weir. Hornton stone baluster bearing sundial. Beneath the face of the sun is an inscription which reads:

"LET THEM TELL OF STORM AND SHOWERS.
I ONLY COUNT THE SUNNY HOURS."

And small brass plaque inscribed

GIVEN IN LOVING GRATITUDE TO
THE COMMUNITY AND IN MEMORY OF
FIVE HAPPY YEARS AT THORNTON
