Roger Kitchen traced Albert's brothers, Will and George French,
who were then in their seventies.

Roger recorded their reminiscences about Albert leaving home,
and how they received the news of his death.

Roger discovered that Albert's sweetheart, Violet Cox, who had subsequently married, had died some years ago. However, her brother, James, still had the photograph that Albert had sent to Violet - the one of him in uniform that he mentions in his letter.
