Privacy at the Front - to the front, the roadside elevation, the architect succeeded in his policy of creating solid barriers between the occupants and the outside world; in much the same way that Alexander et al emphasize the role of private spaces. This remains the case for the staggered layouts at the northern end of the site.

At the southern end, where extensions at the front are more prevalent, the same effect is now achieved by dense planting.
