Money for Heating Fund

Mr. Cowley said that the efforts that day was towards the cost of a new heating apparatus for the Hall, estimated to be about £50. Since the Hall was enlarged 16 months ago many whist drives and dances had been held in the Hall and well patronised by the residents. Most of the village organisations were represented that day in arranging and assisting in the proceedings.
Mrs. Sunley, in declaring the fete open, said they had enjoyed the judging but it had been a difficult task. Mrs. Sunley congratulated Carole and her attendants and those in fancy costume for a splendid effort. It must have meant a lot of hard work for the mothers in preparing the children.
Mrs. Sunley, said she understood the Hall cost £1,500 to enlarge, the money having been raised by efforts year after year. The committee realised that they must make people welcome and with a new heating system people would be warm and comfortable at whist drives. She hoped the residents would continue all the efforts in the Hall, and that they would reach their objectives in that day.
Mr. B. Tapp (vice-chairman) expressed thanks to all the visitors and “our good friends” Mr. and Mrs. Whiting.
The “Queen” handed Mrs. Sunley a bouquet and Mr. Sunley a buttonhole. Gifts were handed to Carole and her attendants.
