Hot pants help village fete

A Hot Pants parade got Castlethorpe Village Hall fete off to a good start on Saturday, Mrs. S. Griffiths and Miss Rebecca Hunter won the parade and proved that Castlethorpe is in touch with summer fashions.
There was also a children’s fancy dress competition before the fete in which prizes were awarded to: Michelle Markham, 2. Julie Abery, 3. Susan Funell: under 7. Stuart Brown and Julian Edmunds. Judges were Mr. and Mrs. Otter.
The fete which was opened by Mr. Ron West of Hartwell, raised over £100 for the Village Hall fund. Mr. West, the former clerk of the parish council, used to be treasurer of the fund. He was presented with a pair of garden shears and a voucher by Miss Diane Hill, Castlethorpe’s Teen Queen.
First prize in the raffle was won by Mrs. S. Nicholls, and Mr. D. Scripps won the competition for a joint of pork. Winners of the evening whist drive, when Mrs. Welch was M.C. were Mr. and Mrs. Carter of Whittlebury.
Stallholders at the fete were: members of the Mother’s Union, Women’s Institute, Castlethorpe Play area committee, friends of Castlethorpe school, Mr. W. Edwards and the cricket club, Mr. F. Lane, the football club, Mrs. P. Betts, girl guides, Mr. B. Tapp, Mr. and Mrs. P. Jones, Mrs. Wilkins and Mrs. Burnett.
