CASTLETHORPE’S SMALL SCORE
In a home game on Saturday Castlethorpe batsmen failed badly against Ashton and could only muster 24 runs, six batsmen failing to score. Ashton replied with 63, mainly due to the stubborn batting of the “tail-end” players. G. Bailey took seven Castlethorpe wickets for 13 runs and B. Garratt five Ashton wickets for 23. Each side batted again for 12 overs and in that period Ashton were dismissed for 31. R. Rock taking seven wickets for 6 runs, and Castlethorpe, in reply, fared much better than they did in their first innings, running up a score of 39 for two. B. Garratt making 26.
First innings scores were:
Castlethorpe: E. Green 0, F. Bavington 3, B. Garratt 0, J. Cooper 6, J. Bavington 6, L. Markham 3, R. Rock 0, L. Robinson 0, K. Foakes 0, R. Bridge not out 1, H. Limbrey 0, extras 5, total 24.

SCOREBOARD SHOWED
CASTLETHORPE WIN
But Scorebooks Recorded a Draw
A quarter of an hour’s extra play was played at Yardley Gobion on Saturday in order to give Castlethorpe the opportunity to win. At 7.10 p.m. there was a boundary bye which it was thought, gave Castlethorpe victory by one run. The fielders retired, but it was then discovered that although the score-board gave victory to Castlethorpe both score-books gave the score as three short of Yardley Gobion’s total of 123. Castlethorpe batsmen wanted to go to the crease again, but the 7.15 time limit arrived and the result was given as a draw. Yardley Gobion had bright knocks by S. Kightley (23), S. Jaquest (30), and S. Ratledge (21), with extras contributing 23. Bert Garrett five for 21 had the best Castlethorpe bowling analysis.
Castlethorpe’s opening batsman, Johnny Cooper, gave a firework display with six boundary hits out of his 25 runs, and then had to retire with a cut chin, in which a stitch had to be inserted. When “Nodgy” Garrett came on the scene he also set about the Yardley bowling and in two overs made 37 runs out of his 58 not out.
Yardley Gobion: S. Kightley 23, G. Carter 1, A. J. Kightley 11, G. Barker 0, D. Johnson 12, S. Jaquest 30, D. Atkins 1, G. Brown not out 1, S. Ratledge not out 21, extras 23, total (for 7 wkts.) 123. Chilton two for 51, Garrett five for 21. A. Webb and M. Johnson did not bat.

Silverstone’s pitch was unplayable on Sunday so their game was switched to the North Bucks village’s ground. And it has been many a long day since over 350 runs were scored in a match there.
Silverstone declared at 212 with P. Smith making 98 and R. Hayle 60. Castlethorpe made a steady reply with David Spinnelli, T. Barnes senior and J. Pittam. But Spencer got among the wickets and the game ended in a draw with Castlethorpe 153 for 7.

Castlethorpe's Mark Caswell about to lose his wicket after getting an edge
|
Unfortunately for Castlethorpe, their batting display did not match the weather when they elected to bat first in their home encounter with Kempston Methodists last Saturday.
A lack of concentration, aided by some very poor strokes, contributed to Castlethorpe’s meagre total of 87 all out and only two batsmen managed to reach double figures.
Only opener Richard Oakley played with any assurance in his innings of 26, with A. Pittam giving him a hand by scoring 12.
With neither pacemen David Ell or J. Pittam playing, Castlethorpe’s total never looked enough.
Several catches were dropped in the field leaving Kempston comfortable winners by five wickets.
------------------------------------------
On Sunday, Castlethorpe travel to Westbury and an uncharacteristic knock of 40 by skipper David Spinnelli held them together after an appalling start.
This was followed by a fine 40 run partnership between younger Paul Scripps, scoring a career best of 33, and A. Pittam, who hit 19, to push Castlethorpe’s total to 108 all out.
In reply Westbury opened strongly and moved into a good position at 80 for four with opener G. Faulkner knocking up 30.
Although D. Gringle hit 23 before being out lbw to Hill and K. Tew was run out on 27, Westbury failed to get the required runs in this keenly fought match and Castlethorpe ran out winners by seven runs.
