Fred Pateman was Castlethorpe Stationmaster from 1946 to 1953.

He was born in Loughborough. Fred after leaving school worked as a telegraph boy before joining the railway when he was 15. His first job was as a boy porter. He became a trainee signalman, after he qualified he worked in Loughborough and Wymondham in Newton Harcourt. Later training as a relief stationmaster in 1945. Coming to his first permanent post at Castlethorpe in 1946. He lodged with Mr & Mrs. Alec Burbidge until his family joined him in 1947.

Frances Alice Pateman

Frances Black was born in Loughborough, she married Fred Pateman in 1930.
When she came to Castlethorpe she joined the W.I. becoming an active member and treasurer.

Peggy Pateman outside the Station House

Peggy was born in Loughborough the elder child of Fred and Frances. Moving to Castlethorpe with her parents in 1947.

Peggy worked as a Post Office teller for McCorquodales in Wolverton. Peggy met Les Smith (who came to Castlethorpe from Edmonton, London, as an evacuee. See: Castlethorpe At War). They married in 1951 and had two children David and Janet.

Erica Jean Pateman

Erica was the younger daughter of Fred and Frances. As a schoolgirl, she attended secondary school in Wolverton.
Erica worked for McCorquodales on leaving school, until 1953 when she moved with her family,
to the next posting her father had, as a Goods Yardmaster in Coventry.
