Castlethorpe School Log Book 1924

Jan 7th Opened school today after Xmas holiday. Only 2 children are now absent through Chicken Pox.
   
Feb 1st The weather has been exceptionally cold and consequently many children are away with colds.
   
Feb 29 During the last fortnight many children have been absent through influenza. The weather has been very severe.
   
Mar 4th Shrove Tuesday - The children will have a half holiday today.
   
Mar 7th  
  I held the scholars' Record of Progress Examination today. Mr. Manning one of the managers was present.
   
Mar 14th Have marked the papers of the above and shall let the arithmetic and English tests stand for the term's examsn.
   
April 1st Have promoted the children into their new classes this morning.
   
April 4th Shall start the new work in the various Classes on Monday next. The Geography of Stds 5 to 7 will be the British Empire.
Standards 3 & 4 will take the British Islands as last year.
   
April 16th Have closed school today (Wednesday) for the Easter Holiday. Shall re-open on Tuesday morning April 29th
   
April 29th Resumed school today after Easter holiday.
   
June 6th The school will be closed on Whit Monday and the two following days for the Whitsuntide holiday.
About 22 of the older children have started to subscribe weekly in order to visit Wembley Exhibition on Friday July 11th.
   
July 10th I invited the parents to come and see the work of the school this afternoon, and a great number came.
   
July 11th The school will be closed today in order to enable the master to take about 22 of the older scholars to Wembley exhibition.
   
July 21st As the terminal examination will be taken this week it will most probably interfere with the usual routine of lessons.
   
July 31st Closed school today for the summer holiday. (4 weeks).
   
Sept 1st Opened school today and commenced the 2nd term's work.
   
Sept 10th Miss Neale the County inspectress of needlework visited school this morning and examined the girls' work.
   
Oct 10th Mr. Watkins called in this morning and checked the registers.
   
Oct 20th Received copy of Report from the Organiser of Needlework in the County - Castlethorpe School
"Visited 10th September 1924. The work is carried out in the same careful and practical way as noted on former visits. Very good."
   
Oct 29th School used as polling station for general election - closed.
   
Oct 30th Half term holiday - school will be closed today and tomorrow.
   
Nov 17th Mr. Bloxidge H.M.I. visited the school today (Monday)
   
Nov 17th The master was absent through illness.
   
Nov 19th Miss Rainbow came and assisted during the Master's absence. (17th 18th & 19th Nov).
   
Nov 24th Master resumed duties.
   
Dec 9th The master was away again ill and Mrs. Middleton in charge.
   
Dec 19th Master resumed duties today and closed school for the Christmas holidays. (A fortnight). Owing to the master's illness the usual term's exam, will have to be taken at the beginning of next term in January.
