In 1857 customers and friends gave Valentine a portrait of himself and some of his flock painted by Henry Barraud, to commemorate sixty eight years of breeding from the original pure bred Bakewell, fed only with grass and root crops.
The painting remained at Foscote House until the farm was sold from the Grafton estate to tenant William Gibbins Barford who remained there until 1933, his daughter donated the painting to Guildhall museum Northampton in 1992, along with portraits of the father and son sheep breeders and one of Foscote Grafton Estate tenant Valentine Barford (1675 1746), who is commemorated by a separate parish from Towcester in 1737
