John Elms 1728

In the name of God Amen I John Elms of the parish of Alderton in the county of Northampton yeoman being of sound mind and memory and understanding do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following (That is to say) First I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God as unto a faithful and merciful Creator hoping for pardon of my sins from him through the merits and suffering of my Savior Jesus Christ and for my body I commit it to the ground to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors therein after mentioned and named and as touching of my temporal estate with which it hath pleased God Almighty to Bless me with I give and dispose of it as follows.
I give and bequeath unto my son Sam Elms the sum of ten pounds and unto Hannah Linnell ten pound. I give unto my son Edward Elms the sum of ten pounds if ever he comes to England again if he never comes no more my will is that it shall be equally divided between Samuel and Richard and John and Hannah Elms. I give unto my son Richard Elms the sum of five pounds when he shall attain to the age of twenty one years. I give unto William and Ann Elms the son and daughter of Geo. Elms the sum of five pounds a piece when they shall attain to the age of twenty one years. My will and meaning is that my debts and funeral charges and legacies shall all be defrayed by my son John Elms whom I make sole executor of this my last will and testament whereunto I have set my hand and seal this eleventh day of March one thousand seven hundred and twenty seven and in the first year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the second now by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith. Signed sealed published and declared by the testator for and to contain his only last will and tesament and also attested and subscribed in the presence of us.
