Henry Gray 1697

In the name of God Amen I Henry Gray of Alderton in the County of Northampton Carpenter
Being very weak of body but of perfect memory. Do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following.I give and bequeath my body to the earth as God hath gave it and my soul into the hands of my redeemer. And for my worldly estate I dispose of it in manner and form following.
Item I give unto my son John Gray all my land lying in the parish of Paulerspury for the term of his natural life and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten for ever but for want of such I show unto the heirs of my son-in-law John Walker for ever provided my son John Gray do pay unto widow Caves the sum of two pounds and ten shillings to which I stand now indebted.
Item I give and bequeath unto my son Henry Gray all my working tools a brass kettle and a barrel.
Item I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Dinah Walker my head for my bed on which I now lie a brass pot a kettle a skillet and a warming pan and a wooden screen and all my hay and straw.
Item I give and bequeath unto my son Henry Gray my son-in-law John Walker, my son-in-law James Mason all my corn and peas and hog and all such money as shall be over and above paying my debts to be parted equally and divided between them.
And whereas my son John Gray is not at present at home neither do I know when he shall come to enjoy the same. My mind intent and meaning is that my son-in-law James Mason do use and occupy the land bequeathed to my son John Gray until such time he shall come to enjoy the same without giving any discomfort to the said John Gray but if it shall happen that my son John Gray comes not nor his heirs within the term of four years that the said James Mason do yield up or pay rent to my grandson John Walker.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Diana Walker wife of said John Walker and my daughter Elizabeth Mason wife of said James Mason all my household goods to be equally divided between them.
I give and bequeath my house wherein I now dwell with all the land belonging to the farm for the term of the lease in being unto my son-in-law John Walker. And further my mind and meaning is that whereas I have bequeathed my heifer and all my hay and straw to keep the same that her father John Walker have nothing to do there with but desiring my friend Mr. James Horton to take and keep or dispose of the heifer for the use of my granddaughter Diana Walker and further I do make and appoint my son-in-law John Walker and my son-in-law James Mason soul and whole executors of this my last Will and Testament witness my hand and seal this twenty fourth day of December 1696
