James Horton 1659

Know all men by these presents that upon serious consideration of my own mortality as also of the frailty of a young people and that propensity in them to be drawn in their matching to their own ruin Also I having had good experience of the love and fidelity of my beloved wife and of her tender care of bringing up of my children in the care of the Lord and in a consideration to live comfortably in the world I James Horton of Alderton in county of Northampton gent I being in perfect health and memory blessed be the Lord do here make my last Will in manner and form following that is to say I give and bequeath to my eldest son James Horton ten shillings Item I give to my son Thomas Horton five shillings Item I give to my son Joseph Horton five shillings Item I give to my son John Horton five shillings Item I give to my daughter Elizabeth Horton five shillings my will being that they should buy themselves each a ring or signet of their father's tender care of their welfare Item I give to my wellbeloved wife Elizabeth Horton all my land which I have purchased in Grafton and which is now in lease to Richard Wardly and in possession of Thomas Kingson and also all my land which I have purchased in Alderton and my fee farm rents due from Bosenham Mill And also all my goods and chattels both at Stanton close in Leicestershire and at Alderton aforesaid or elsewhere whatsoever Item my will is that the aforesaid legacies shall be paid to my wellbeloved wife Elizabeth Horton aforesaid whom I make and ordain my full executrix of this my last Will In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this tenth day of [May] one thousand six hundred fifty seven

This Will was presented at London the five and twentieth day of February one thousand fifty eight by the oath of Elizabeth Horton the relict and sole executrix before the Judges for probate of wills and granting administration lawfully authorized to whom administration was granted and she being first sworn by Commission well and truly to administer.
