William Jelley 1802
In the name of God Amen. I William Jelley of Alderton in the county of Northampton Farmer being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses together with the expenses of paving this my Will be fully paid and satisfied. And from and after payment and satisfaction thereof I give and bequeath unto my good friend James Hill gentleman and my brother John Jelley or the survivor of them all and singular household goods farming stock implements of husbandry ready money debts outstanding and all other singular other my personal estate of what nature or kind so ever the same may be at the time of my decease. In Trust and Confidence nevertheless that they the said Trustees shall and do carry on my farming and other businesses which I usually did carry on and apply the net profit thence arising to the maintainance and support of my wife Mary Jelley and of such of my children who shall be under Age at the time of my decease until my youngest son shall attain the age of twenty one years or the remarriage or decease of my said wife Mary provided that the said profits shall be found sufficient and adequate to the maintainance and support of my family aforesaid. And it is my Will and desire that if the profits arising from my aforesaid businesses shall be found insufficient and inadequate to the maintainance and support of my said wife and younger children my said trustees shall and do sell and dispose of all and singular my property aforesaid by public or private sale and apply the net money thence arising to the maintainance of my said wife Mary so long as she shall continue my widow and the support and bring up of my younger children in such manner and in such proportion as they shall think fit and necessary. And further my Will and Meaning is that my said trustees shall and do sell and dispose of all and singular my property aforesaid upon the remarriage or decease of my said wife Mary (if either shall happen before my said youngest son shall come to Age) And place the net money arising from the said sale out at interest upon security as they shall think proper and safe and pay and apply the interest of such money for and towards the maintainance and bringing up of my said younger children until the youngest son shall attain the Age of one and twenty years. And from and immediately after my youngest sons attainment of the age of twenty one years my Will and meaning is and I do hereby direct that my said trustees shall and do give and deliver up to my said wife Mary one feather bed with bedding and as many of my household goods as they shall judge necessary for the use (provided she shall then be my widow). To my son Robert Jelley one flock bed with the bedding and my bureau. To my son William Jelley my watch and to my son Edward Jelley my chest. And as soon as conveniently may be after the giving and delivering of the said household goods unto my said wife and sons I will and direct that my said trustees do and shall sell all the rest and residue of my household goods farming stock and implements of husbandry by public or private sale and out of the net money arising from the such sale do and shall give and pay unto (provided the amount of my remaining personal property be sufficient) my wife Mary ten pounds unto my son Robert Jelley ten pounds unto my son Richard Jelley ten pounds unto my daughter Ann Jelley ten pounds unto my son Edward Jelley ten pounds unto my son Joseph Jelly ten pounds and unto my son William Jelley. And further I will and direct that my said trustees do and shall divide equally all the rest and residue of the amount of the said sale and my other effects between and among my said wife Mary and all my surviving children share and share alike. And lastly I do hereby make and appoint my said trustees executors of this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills by me hereto fore made. Signed sealed published and declared by the said William Jelley the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence of each other have subscribed our Names as Witnesses

On the third day of December 1802 James Hill and John Jelley the executors named in the within will were sworn well and faithfully to perform the same according to Law, and that the deceased at the time of his death was not possessed of a personal Estate to the amount of £300
