In the name of God Amen 1539 I James Sawsby whole of mind make my Testament in manner and form following . First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God and to Our Lady Saint Mary and all the holy company of heaven and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Saint Margaret in Alderton.
Item to the mother church of Lincoln 2d.
Item to the sepulcher light a pound of wax.
Item to the rood light a pound of wax.
Item I bequeath 6d towards buying a altar cloth for Our Lady altar.
Item to the repairs of the bells 12d.
Item 10s to a priest to sing for me and my wife in the church of Saint Margaret in Alderton.
Item I will some dole for the health of my soul in the town of Alderton ½[d] dole and in the county ¼[d] dole.
Item to every one of my children 20s , and to every one of them a pair of sheets.
Item to John Sawsbe my son a calf.
Item to every one of my godchildren 4d.
Item to Thomas Sawsbe a qtr. of barley.
Item to John Camfeld the eldest son of Richard Camfeld a strike of malt and half strike of wheat.
Item to Alis [.]eyff my mother in law ½ strike malt and ½ strike of bread corn.
Item to William Sawsbe my son a strike of malt.
