Robert Travell 1590
In the name of God Amen. This [present] Friday being the fourth of December 1590. I Robert Travell of Aldrington in the county of Northampton yeoman being sick in body but perfect of memory thanks be to God for it do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, first I bequeath my soul to Almighty God creator and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Aldrington aforesaid.
Item I give to the mother church of Peterborough 4d.
Item I give to the repairs of the said church of Aldrington 2s. 6d.
Item I give to my son Richard Travell all my lands and tenements with the appurtenances thereunto belonging where and whatsoever within this Realm of England after the decease of Alice Travell my wife to him my said son his heirs males forever. And if it shall happen my said son to depart this present world without issue male lawfully begotten of his body. That then my will is that my son Nicholas Travell shall have all the said lands and tenements with all and singular their appurtenances to him and to his heirs male lawfully begotten and for lack of heirs male lawfully begotten of the said Nicholas my son my will is that all my said tenements and lands aforesaid with their appurtenances shall be quietly and peaceably warranted unto my son Edward Travell and his heirs male lawfully begotten of the body of my said son Edward. And for lack of heirs male so lawfully begotten of my said son Edward my will is that my son John Travell his heir and assigns shall have hold and quietly enjoy forever all my said tenements and lands with all and singular their appurtenances against all manor of persons.
Item I give to Peter Conway and my daughter his wife forty shillings to be paid them within two years after my decease.
Item I give to my cousins Elizabeth Conway, Jane, Thomas Reynold Francis Edward and William Conway 40s to be equally divided and given to them and every of them at the day of their marriage.
Item I give to Edward Travell my son £6 14s 4d to be paid him or his assigns during the time that he is unmarried yearly 20s. and after that he is married 40s. yearly until the said £6 14s. 4d. be fully satisfied and paid.
Item my will is that my said son Edward shall have his board viz. meat drink and lodging during the time that he is unmarried at the only pepper costs and charges of my said wife he using himself as a son ought to do towards his mother.
Item I give to my son John Travell and his children that now are 40s to be equally divided amongst them and to be paid to them or their assigns yearly after my decease 10s. until the said 40s be fully contented and paid.
Item I give to my brother Alexander Travell one half acre of maslin and my best blue coat.
Item I give to my brother Alexander Travell his children that now are 20s. equally to be divided amongst them and to be paid them and every of them at the day of their marriage.
Item I give to Nicholas Travell my son 20s. to be paid him within four years after my decease.
Item I give to Mary Travell daughter of the said Nicholas one rood of wheat in Pery field.
Item I give to Isabell Bayley my daughter three strike of mill corn to be paid her within years after my decease.
Item I give to Nicholas Travell son of my son Nicholas all his finding viz. meat drink linen woolen and lodging and all other things necessary to him appertaining until he be of the age of 21 years and at the day of his marriage one heifer of the age of 3 years.
Item I give my sister Jane Typler four strike of barley.
Item I give to every of my godchildren 12d. The rest of my goods and chattels what and wheresoever my debts and funeral discharged I give to Alice Travell my wife and Richard Travell my son equally to be divided between them and do constitute and make my said wife my full whole sole executrix of this my last Will and Testament. And do request the [wo.sh.ll] and my very good friends Mr. Robert Osborne and Mr. Thomas Stafferton of esquires to be overseers of this my last Will and Testament, and I give every of them for their pains 2s. 2d. In witness whereof I have caused this my last Will to be made and set my hand and seal the day and year first mentioned above written. In the presence of Robert Osborne Thomas Saxbie James Tyson and Myles Camfield
