Many of you will have noticed that the clock which has stood in the centre of the village for the last fifty years has been missing recently. The Parish Council would like to thank Mr. Terry Boss, Mr. Bob Ganna and Chris Collins for their hard work in repairing and cleaning the clock. A small ceremony was held on 2 May when the clock was returned to its place on the telegraph pole, at the junction of Park Road and Forest Road.
A special guest at this ceremony was Mr. Archie Whatton, whose father Edric bought the clock on behalf of his company E. Whatton & Sons. Mr. Whatton said his father decided to buy the clock because he thought it would be nice to have a clock in the middle of the village so everyone could see it. "As there was no other clock in a public place it was very useful".
Also present at the ceremony was Mr. Bill Matthews who helped Mr. Whatton repair the clock when it last stopped in 1977, and Mr. Bill Thomas who supplied the champagne to celebrate when the clock was put back. The Parish Council would also like to thank Mr. Dick Wain who makes sure that the clock is keeping the correct time.
