Edward Addington 1681

In the Name of God Amen the Thirtyeth day of september in the Three & thirtyeth yeare of the Reigne of our sovereigne Lord King Charles the Second of England etc Anno domini 1681: I Edward Addington of Potterspury in the County of Northampton yeoman having for some time last past been very weake and Crasie: and much indisposed: And at this present and weake in body (but sound and perfect memory) and believing this life to be uncertaine am willing to settle things in order: Therefore I doe make & ordaine this my last will & testament in manner and form following: And First I Revoke renownce & make void all wills by me formerly made either by word of mouth, or by wrighting and doe declare this and nowe other to be my last will & testament; And touching such worldly estate; as the Lord in mercy hath lent me my the will is the same shalbe ymployed and bestowed as herinafter is expressed. Vidzt I give & bequeath All that my Howse or Homesteed wherein I now dwell situate in Blackwell end in Potterspury aforesaid with the barnes stables, outhouses yards, gardens, orchards Close, and all & Singular the premises with the Appurtenanses thereunto belonging unto my two daughters Elizabeth and Mary theyre heyres and assignes for ever (to be equally divided between them by foure sufficient honest men to be equally chosen by my said two daughters) when my daughter Elizabeth shall attaine to her Full age of Eighteen yeares. And if either of [my]i said two daughters, shall happen to dye before my said daughter Elizabeth shall attaine to her full age of Eighteen yeares Then my will is that the parte and portion of the premises aforesaid of her soe dying shalbe and Remaine to the survivor of them ther heyres & assignes: Item I give devise and bequeath unto my sonne William Addington his heyres & assignes forever All that my house in the occupation of my brother Thomas Addington situate & being in Potterspury aforesaid called or known by the name; or signe of the Angell with all barnes Stables, outhouses, premises and appurtenanses whatsoever thereunto belonging: And my will is the same shall be delivered unto him when he shall attaine to his full age of one & twenty yeares, Item my will is that my brother Thomas Addington (if he thinke fit) shall dwell and continue in my said house: well & truely paying the yearley [the]d Rent of foure pounds & keepinge the houses & mowndes in good & sufficient Repayre. And not be put out till my sonne William shall attaine his full age of One & twenty yeares. Item my will is that my said house shall sett in good Repayre with that thing by my executrix herafter named at his entrance upon the same, within six moneths after my decease. Item I give & bequeath to my brother Richard Addington tenn pounds to be paid unto him within twelve monethes after my decease: if my wife Refuse to allowe him his maintenance for his worke: And soe long as she allowe him sufficient mantenance she shall keepe the said tenn pounds in her hands; Item I give & bequeath unto Elizabeth mynow wife all my goods, Chattells. & personall estate: provided she keepe her selfe [widdowe]i and doth not marry againe: But if she shall dispose her selfe in marriage to any person, Then I give and bequeath to my said wife only Three Score pounds which she is to have out of my personall estate upon condission she acquitt & release all her interest, thirds & dower of in and to any lands or tenements I am possessed of at the time of my death. Item my will is that after my debts and Legacyes are paid and my funerall expences discharged: if my wife shall dispose of her selfe in marryage to any other person the overplus shalbe & remaine to the use of my three Children, equally to be divided between them. Item my will is my personall estate shalbe appraised by three or foure sufficient honest Neighbours within tenn days after my decease. Item I doe make and ordaine my said wife executrix of this my last will & testament: And I doe make ordaine and appoint my brother in law Thomas Smith of Grafton, and my brother Thomas Addington of Potterspury aforesaid the overseers of this my will. And my will is that my said executrix shall give an account oute every yeare to my said overseers of how disposal distribution & execution of the premises if there be overplus as aforesaid for the use of my children: Item I doe give & bequeath to every of my brothers & sisters theyre husbands & wives each of them a payre of gloves to be delivered to them at my funerall or else one shilling six pence a piece: Item if in the case my said wife shall refuse the executorshippe of this my will upon the considerations before [in] these presents expressed. Then I doe ordaine appoint nominate and make my [brother] Thomas Addington my brother in law Thomas Smith aforesaid to be the executors of this my [last will & testament.]
In witnesss whereof I the said Edward Addington have to this my will (containing two sheets of paper fairely written uppon one syde) sett my hand & sealle the day & yeare first above written. Edward Addington
