In the name of God Amen the sixth day of July Anno Domini 1622 In the 20th. year of the reign of King James of England I Thomas Addington of Potterspery in the county of Northampton yeoman, revoking all other Wills do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following First I bequeath my sole into the hands of Almighty God my Creator trusting assuredly that by the merits death and passion of his dear and only son Christ Jesus I shall be made partaker of his everlasting kingdom and my body to be buried in the parish Church of Potterspery aforesaid near to the place where my first wife was buried with such funerals as my executor hereafter named shall think good Item I give to the mother church of Peterborough 4d Item I give and bequeath to Alice my wife one standing bedstead one featherbed thereupon one bolster one coverlet and one blanket and one pair of sheets Item I do further give unto her two joined stools three chests one box and all other things which properly to herself belong as namely her apparel and such other like things Item I give and bequeath to my grandchildren vizt Richard Scrivener Thomas Scrivener and Edward Scrivener the sum of ten pounds of lawful English money to be equally divided amongst them when as they and each of them shall accomplish the age of eighteen years Item I give and bequeath unto the said Richard and Thomas Scrivener one truckle and one chest and all that therein shall equally to be divided betwixt them Item I give and bequeath unto the said Thomas Scrivener one standing bedstead one featherbed one bolster one pillow one new coverlet one blanket and one pair of sheets with a truckle bed under it with no furniture on it but only one mat when he shall accomplish his full age of eighteen years or day of his marriage which first shall happen Item I give and bequeath unto the said Edward Scrivener one court cupboard and one chest when he shall accomplish his full age of eighteen years or day of his marriage which first shall happen Item I give and bequeath unto Jane Scrivener my grandchild one silver trencher salt and one silver spoon at the age of eighteen years or day of her marriage which shall first happen Item I give to Joyce Scrivener one other of my grandchildren one pair of hollan sheets and two pillowbeers when she shall accomplish her age of eighteen years or day of her marriage which first shall happen Item I give and bequeath unto eighteen of the poorest people of Pottersperie aforesaid 4d a piece to be paid unto them yearly upon Saint Thomas day forever in the church of Pottersperie aforesaid by my son in law Richard Scrivener his heirs or assigns and to be distributed by him or them and the churchwardens for the time being to such persons as most well requireth In consideration whereof I leave in the hands of the said Richard Scrivener my son in law the sum of three pounds of lawful English money provided always that if the said Richard Scrivener his heirs or assigns do at any time refuse to pay the said poor people as aforesaid that then he or they refusing shall pay and deliver the said sum of three pounds to two of the sufficient men in Potterspery aforesaid as shall be thought fit by the decision of the whole inhabitants to be employed for the best use of the said poor people as aforesaid And if it happen that any of my said grandchildren above mentioned shall decease before they accomplish their said age of eighteen years or day of marriage then my will is that his or their portion or portions so deceased shall remain to the others or others surviving. All the rest of my goods and chattels whatsoever not given nor hereby bequeathed after my debts paid and my legacies performed I wholly give unto my said son in law Richard Scrivener whom I do ordain and make the sole executor of this my last Will and Testament And I do desire Thomas Smith als Kent of Morend Green and Richard Gorstlowe my son in law to be overseers of this my last Will and Testament And I do give them for their pains 12d a piece And in token that this is my last Will I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written Signed Thomas Addington These being witnesses Richard Gorstlowe William Hull
