William Addington 1758

In the name of God Amen I William Addington of Potterspury in the county of Northampton being through the abundant mercy of God though weak in body yet of a sound and perfect understanding and memory do make and constitute this my last Will and Testament And desire it may be receive by all such First my will is that all any just debts and funeral charges be paid by my executor hereafter named and that they lay out twenty shillings in bread and give it to poor people of Potterspury at my funeral And my will is that Richard Scrivener the elder son of my late sister Elizabeth Scrivener and Edward Windmill carpenter and maltster of Denshanger son of my late sister Mary have that house or tenement with all it's appurtenances in Blackwell End adjoining unto my now dwelling on the south east side now in the tenure or occupation of Mary Goode I give it unto them and to their heirs forever as directed by my mother Addington 's Will and I do hereby give unto my niece Elizabeth Windmill daughter of my late sister Mary Windmill the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of Great Britain And I do also give to my niece Mary Windmill daughter of my late sister Mary the like sum of ten pounds of like lawful money of Great Britain And I do hereby give Thomas Scrivener of Simpson eldest son of my nephew Thomas Scrivener the sum of ten pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain and I do also give Richard Scrivener of Potterspury and brother to the above said Thomas and also son of my late nephew Thomas scrivener the like sum of ten pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain And I do hereby give unto Elizabeth Newman wife of Isaac Newman and sisiter of the above Thomas and Richard and also daughter of my nephew Thomas Scrivener the sum of five pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain And I do hereby give and demise unto Elliner Scrivener wife of my nephew Richard Scrivener the elder for and during her natural life my now dwelling house with the orchards gardens buildings and all the appurtenances thereunto belonging and after her decease my will is and do hereby give the said house with the appurtenances and all writings deeds and evidences thereunto belonging unto Joseph Scrivener son of the above Richard Scrivener the elder and Elliner his wife unto him and his heirs for ever and I do also give unto my kinswoman Margaret Bland the sum of ten pounds and likewise to Mary Scrivener sister of the said Margaret Bland the like sum of ten pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain and I do hereby give unto my kinswoman Mary Wood wife of Thomas Wood maltster of Potterspury the sum of twenty pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain and I do hereby give unto her sister Elizabeth Wilby wife of Barnett Wilby of Northampton the sum of five pounds and I do also give unto Robert Cook their half brother the sum of five pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain And I do hereby give unto Elizabeth Scrivener wife of my late nephew Edward Scrivener the sum of five pounds and I also give to her daughter Susanna the like sum of five pounds of good and lawful money to be paid by my executors so soon as she shall attain to the age of twenty and one years And I do hereby give and demise unto my nephew Richard Scrivener the elder of Potterspury all that estate which purchased of Mary and William Wallbank which consists of arable lay meadow and pasture ground and lying in the parish of Furtho Cosgrave and Potterspury together with my house or tenement with the orchard and the appurtenances situate in Blackwell End and abutting upon Tinkers Lane and is now in the tenure or occupation of Joseph Higham and likewise my house or tenement situate in the High Street in Pottespury facing Scotts Lane and purchased of the late William Bushnell and now in the tenure or occupation of Edward Tebit and at the decease of my above kinsman Richard Scrivener the elder my will is and I do hereby give unto his son Joseph Scrivener and his heirs for ever all those estates purchased as specified above to his father particularly of Mary and William Wallbank of William Bushnell and the house at Tinkers Lane in Blackwell End And I do hereby give unto my said kinsman Richard Scrivener the elder and to his son Joseph Scrivener all my house hold goods books bonds debts dues and demands even all my goods and chattels and estates both real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever not before given away by this Will and I do hereby subject my goods and chattels to the payment of the legacies to the legatees if living when due as also all those estates willed and demised to my nephew Richard Scrivener the elder and to his son Joseph and his heirs I subject forever joint executors of this my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 29th. day of December 1755
