Ralph Addyngton 1542

In the name of God Amen the 7 day of May in the year of our Lord God 1542 I Raff Addyngton of Potterspury in the county of Northampton being sick in body nevertheless of good mind and remembrance thanks be unto Almighty God And for as much as this world and transitory and man's life uncertain moves me to ordain and make this my present Testament and last Will in manner form following First I bequeath my soul unto Almighty God my saviour and redeemer And to our blessed Lady Saint Mary the Virgin and to all the Holy company of heaven and when it shall please God that I depart this world my body to be buried within the church of Saint Nicholas in Potterspury aforesaid in the space before the rood beneath where as my father and mother be buried Item I give and bequeath for my mortuary as the law requires Item to the mother church of Peterborough 4d. Item to the maintaining of the ornaments of the high altar in the church of Potterspury aforesaid 12d. Item towards the maintaining of the bells 12d. Item to the rood light 12d. Item to the repairs of the church for and [consyderacions] for breaking the ground in the church where my grave shall made 3s. 4d. Item to the maintaining of the 4 altars in the church and to every altar I give and bequeath 12d. Item I will that all and singular my lands tenements meadows leasures and pastures rents reversions and fruits with all and singular their appurtenances set lying and being in the town and fields of Potterspury Yardley and Cosgrave in the county of Northampton shall be and remain to such uses and intents as hereafter shall be specified and declared in this present Testament and last Will That is to say First I will that Elyzabeth my wife shall have occupy and enjoy all and singular my foresaid lands tenements meadows leasures and pastures rent and all other the premises with their appurtenances unto the said Elyzabeth during her natural life to her only use Item I will that immediately after the decease of the said Elyzabeth my wife that all the messuage or tenements with the appurtenances in the which I now at this day of making of this present Will and Testament am dwelling and inhabited in with all and singular those lands tenements meadows leasures and pastures to the same messuage or tenement appurtenances or belonging and all my lands and tenements with their appurtenances in Yardeley and Covesgrave in the county of Northampton shall remain and come to those of John Addyngton my eldest son to have hold occupy and enjoy to the said John Addyngton and to Lucy his wife and to the longer lived of them and to the heirs and assigns of the said John Addyngton forever except and reserve 2 acres of heysable land with the appertanance whereof one acre lying in Omprey field and one other acre lying at Cleyeywell Hill and which said 2 acres I will Robert my second son shall have and enjoy to him and to Margery his wife and to the heirs and assigns of the said Robert forever after the decease of Elyzabeth my wife Item I give and bequeath unto the said Robert my second son all that my house or tenement with the appurtenances in Potterspury aforesaid called the White House with 2 acres of land of land in Smalley now in the tenure and occupation of the same Robert and also one close lying unto next Smalley in Potterspury or Estpury aforesaid to have hold occupy and enjoy all the said messuage or tenement and 4 acres of land that is to say one acre in Kempton field and one acre in Cleyleywell hill and other 2 acres in Smalley aforesaid and the close next unto Smalley aforesaid and their appurtenances unto the said Robert my son and Margery his wife and the longest lived of them and to the heirs and assigns of the said Robert for and immediately after the death of the said Elyzabeth my wife Item I give and bequeath unto William Addyng[ton] my son all that my messuage or tenement set and lying at the well in Estpury aforesaid with the appurtenances now in the tenure and occupation of Thomas Wooddass with all the lands and appurtenances that there belonging to have occupy and enjoy all the said messuage or tenement and other the premises immediately after the decease of Elyzabeth my wife unto the said Wyllyam Addyngton and to his heirs and assigns forever Item I give and bequeath unto Rychard Addyngton my son all that my messuage or tenement with the appurtenances in Estpury aforesaid called Edwards house now in the tenure and occupation of Thomas Edwards to have hold occupy and enjoy immediately after the decease of Elyzabeth my wife to the said Richard and to his heirs and assigns of him forever Item I give and bequeath unto Nycholas my son all that my messuage or tenement with the appurtenances called Blacke house in Estpury now in the tenure and occupation of John Halle and one close called Peyrtre close and 11d. yearly of any rent whereof 5d. comes out of the lands called Brodes ground and 6d. comes forth of the ground called the Parsons ground in Estpury aforesaid to have hold occupy and enjoy all and singular the premises immediately after the decease of Elyzabeth my wife unto the foresaid Nycholas and to his heirs and assigns forever further I give and bequeath unto Elyzabeth my wife 6 kine 6 oxen my team of 4 horses with a cart and cart gears and all my crop of corn and my sheep Item I give and bequeath unto Rychard my son £3 of money 4 bullocks a little the black nag and after the decease of Elyzabeth my wife I will that the same Rychard my son shall have my best featherbed that I do now lie upon Item I give and bequeath unto Nycholas my son my soreld gelding and a yoke of bullocks Item I give and bequeath unto William Addyngton my son my team of 5 horses which I bought of John Dyx and [re]tain corn to sow his crop to be delivered unto him by the discretion of Elyzabeth my wife Item I give and bequeath unto Katheryn my daughter £3 in money and 4 bullocks Item to Alice my daughter 15s. in money or else 2 bullocks to be worth 15s. Item to Elyzabeth my daughter 6s. 8d. Item to everyone of my sons children being the number of 7 children I will every one of them shall have 16d. a piece in money Item I give and bequeath unto Margery Addyngton 2s. 4d. Item I give and bequeath to Luc[y] Addyngton 2s. 4d. Item to William Brograve my servant one ewe and a lamb Item to Elyzabeth Horsnane my servant one ewe and a lamb The residue of all my goods and chattels not bequeathed all debts and funeral expenses paid and discharged I give and bequeath unto Elyzabeth my wife whom I ordain and make my sole and [missing] executrix of this my last Will and Testament and she to do and dispose for the heath of my sole and she shall think best by her discretion And I ordain and make Rychard Paxston overseer to see to see this my said Testament and last Will to be performed in every point as nye as he can And he to have for his labours and pain to be taken therein 6s. 8d.
