Will of William Clarke of Potterspury, 1563, PRO PROB 11/46

In the name of god Amen The syxth day of Maye Anno 1558 I William Clerke of Pottersperie alias Estpurye, in the Countie of Northampton esquire, and on of the Sergeantes at Armes to the Quenes maiestie beinge sicke in bodie and yet thankes be to Almightie god, of perfeckt memorie and good remembraunce make this my Last will and testament, in manner and forme followinge, That is to saye firste I give and bequethe my Sowle unto Almightie god my redemer, our blessed Lade saint marie and all the hollye companye of heaven to pray for me, my bodie to be buried in the Chauncell of the saide towne before my Seate Where I have used to sitt in the Chauncell. Item I give and bequethe to the said Churche of Potterspurie towardes the reparacions of the belles of the same Churche three Shillinges foure pence. and also I will that the vestment Cope and masse booke and other ornamentes, that I bought for the honor of Almightie god, and better setting forthe of the goddes service in the same churche shalbe used in manner and forme followinge. That is to sey at the every principall feaste, to be brought to the churche and there to be frequented and used during the said service tyme, and every night to be brought home again to my wife during her lief, and after her decease she to bestow the same as to her shall seeme beste and conveniente Item I give and bequethe to the mother Churche of Peterboroughe foure pence. Item I give and bequethe to John Bondvile my servaunte A Fetherbedde and all thinges thereunto belonginge, that is to sey A Coveringe, A paire of sheetes a paire of blankettes A bolster I doe furthemore geve and beqethe to the same John Bendvile, A heifare, A mare, and A quarter of Barley. Item I doe give and bequethe to the poore people within the towne of Pottersperie and yardeley thirtene shillinges foure pence to be geven and bestowed uppon them by the discrecion of my wife and my overseers when and at such tyme as they shall thynke most meete and conveniente. Item I geve and bequethe to the Churche of Passenham thre shillinges foure pence Item I geve and bequethe to every on of my overseers for their paines that they shall take concerning the promisses tenne shillinges a peece. Item I geve and bequethe to margarett bell the Daughter of my daughter marye the sume of twentie pounde towarde her marriage to be paide to the saide margarett in manner and forme following that is to sey at the day of her marriage six pound thirten shillinges iiijd and within on hole yeare next after six pounde thirten shillinges foure pence, And within the hole yeare after the Seconde paymente other six pound thirten shillinges fowre pence in full payment of the saide twentie pounde if the said margarett so longe live or ells if she fortune to decease then all furthe paymente behinde at the houre of deathe, and not dew to be then paide at the houre of her decease. The residue of all my landes Leases plate Juells, Cattalls dettes and all other thinges not geven nor bequethed I give and bequethe to Ane my wife, whom I do institute, ordain and make to be my sole executrix of this my present testament and Last will And also I do ordayne and make to be my overseers Henrie Clerke my sonne Thomas Colls my sonne in Lawe John Erbye of Grafton, and sir Thomas Fowler vicar of Potterspurie my ghostlie father they to aide my wife in all her doinges, whom I doe make my full executrix of this my present testament and Last will witnes to theis presentes Robert Packington otherwise called Robert Rockinhgham William Smythe otherwise called Kent, Henry Rigby and William baylie of dansanger and other mo.
