In the name of God Amen the 21st. day of September Anno Dom 1567 I John Hillier of Potterspurie in the county of Northampton tanner sick in body but of good and perfect remembrance thanks be given to Almighty God make and ordain this my last Will and Testament first I commend and bequeath my soul to Almighty and to the Holy blessed and glorious Trinity three persons and one God trusting by the merits of Christ's death and passion to come to the life everlasting my body to be buried in the church of St. Nicholas in Potterspurie aforesaid where my executors shall think most meet Item I give and bequeath to the mother church of Peterborough 4d. Item I give towards the repairs of the parish church of St. Nicholas aforesaid 2s. Item I give and bequeath unto Henrie Hillyar my eldest son all it my tenement with the appurtenances in Potterspurie aforesaid next the church stile in the occupation of William Spencer and also one parcel of ground adjoining to the said tenement with the appurtenances in the occupation of the said Wm. Spencer and also one parcel of ground with the appurtenances containing by estimation 7 acres at Temple Ashe in Potterpurie with a close adjoining to the same which I late purchased of Robert Bruton and also one acre of arable land which I late purchased of Thomas Smythe in Handley [Hardley] field in Potterspurie aforesaid next Thomas West to have and to hold the same premises to the said Henrie and to his heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever and for default of such heirs then to Thomas my son and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever and for default of such heirs then to William my son and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten and for default of such heirs then to John my son and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten and for default of such heirs to my heirs general Item I give to the said Henrie my son £20 in money to be paid at the day of his marriage Item I give to Thomas my son £20 to be paid as is aforesaid Item I give unto William my son all that my farm with the appurtenances in Hanslappe in the county of Bucks called Strannge Walls in the occupation of mother Ellis widow and all my lands in Hanslappe to him and his heirs and assigns forever Item I give to John my son my close with the appurtenances called Temple Ashe close als. called St. James close in the parish of Furthoo in the occupation of me the said John Hillier to him his heirs and assigns forever and I give unto the said John my son £20 to be paid unto him at the day of his marriage Item I give unto Johan my youngest daughter £10 in money to be paid at the day of her marriage, Provided always and my will is that my wife during her natural life shall have all my lands tenements and hereditament whatsoever in the said county of Northampton and Bucks And my said sons after her decease in manner and form aforesaid Also I will that Thomas my son after my wife's decease shall have the house I now dwell in and the implements of household and the bark that my said wife shall leave after my decease and all the rest of the years in the farm called Fleming's farm after the death of my wife Item I give to Thomas Smith my son in law one ewe and a lamb and to his wife my daughter one ewe and a lamb and to every of their children an ewe a piece Item to Anne Saunder's little wench one ewe and to Mawde Saunders one ewe and a lamb Item I give and bequeath unto Ales my wife all and singular other my household stuff money plate jewels goods or cattels whatsoever as well real as personable not bequeathed and make and ordain the said Ales sole executrix of this my last Will and Testament and overseers of the same my trusty friends William Smith als. Kent Nicholas Church Thomas Smith and Richard Goodman of the southend of Potterspurie and to every of them I give 20d. a piece And I have required these men above written to bear witness of the same
