Richard Scrivener 1723

In the name of God Amen I Richard Scrivener senior of Potterspury in the county of Northampton gent being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect mind memory [and] judgment praised be therefore given to Almighty God do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (viz) first and principally I commit and commend my soul into the hands of God Almighty that gave it hoping through the merits death and passion of my Blessed Lord and saviour Jesus Christ to obtain full and free pardon and remission of all my sins and to inherit everlasting life And my body commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereafter named And as for and touching the disposal of all such temporal estate as it has pleased God to bestow on me I give and dispose thereof as follows First I give and devise to my son Richard Scrivener all that my new built messuage in Potterspury aforesaid And also that other messuage thereunto adjoining wherein I now dwell or lately dwelt together with all houses outhouses barns stables orchards gardens yards hereitaments and appurtenances whatsoever to them or either of them belonging or in any wise appertaining to have and to hold the same to him the said Richard Scrivener and his heirs for ever Item I give and devise to my said son Richard Scrivener all my freehold lands tenements and hereitaments whatsoever lying and being in the county of Northampton aforesaid to have and to hold to him and his heirs for ever. He paying thereout all such legacies as I shall herein and hereby give devise or bequeath and likewise paying all my debts Item I give and devise to my loving wife Elizabeth twenty pounds per annum so long as she shall provide for my two younger sons William and John now apprentices and until they shall be out of their apprenticeships [page creased, illeg.] William and John each of them one hundred and fifty pounds a piece to be paid to them within one year after they are out of their said apprenticeships And incase either of them should die before the said sums become payable I will that then the survivor of them shall have two hundred pounds thereof and the third belong to my aforesaid son Richard Scrivener And I will that my said wife Elizabeth shall have free liberty to dwell in any of my houses rent free, tax free and repair free unless she please to dwell with my said son Richard or else he to provide such an house for her as she shall like of And also I will that incase my wife shall not like to live with my said son Richard I will that he shall find his mother with sufficient fuel for firing her own use as much she shall spend or have occasion for And I further will that my said wife Elizabeth after she has done providing for my two younger sons that is when they have been one year out of their apprenticeships or their aforesaid legacies payable shall have ten pounds per annum duly paid her during the time of her natural life quarterly by even and equal portions Item I give and bequeath to my sons Thomas and Edward and my daughter Margaret Wickens all already provided half a crown a piece to buy each of them a pair of gloves Item all the rest of my goods and chattels ready money stock and personal estate whatsoever I give devise and bequeath to my aforesaid son Richard Scrivener whom I hereby make ordain and appoint my full and sole executor of this my last Will and Testament And I hereby revoke disannul and make void all and all manner of other and former wills or testaments by me in anyway heretofore made or declared In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the ninth day of February in the year of the reign of our soverign Lord King George 1722/3
