Christopher Thurnbecke 1588

In the name of God Amen This instant Friday being the 20th. day of December in the one and thirtieth year of the reign of our soverign Lady Elizabeth by the grace of God Queen of England France and Ireland defender of the faith etc. I Christopher Thurnebecke of Potterspury als. Espury in the county of Northampton Blacksmith being sick in body but perfect of memory thanks be to God for it do make this my last Will and Testament as in manner and form following First I bequeath my soul to the Almighty God my creator and my body to be buried in the churchyard of the said Pery Item I give to the mother church of Peterborough 4d. Item I give towards the repair of the said church of Pery 20d. Item I give to the poor of the said Pery ten shillings Item I give to Margarett Thurnebecke my wife the lease of the Cerk which I hold of Mr. Edward Furthoo of Furthoo esquire in the said county Item I give more to my said wife the lease of all such lands with the appurtenances which I hold of and by Robert Emerson of Cosgrave for 3 years next after the date hereof Item I give more to my said wife all the said lease which I hold of the said Robert Emerson with the appurtenances during her natural life if she continues unmarried during the said lease which I hold of the said Robert excepted and always reserved unto my brother Richard Thurnebeck one acre in a field during the said lease next the said three years and if it shall happen my said wife to marry within three years next after the date hereof that then my will is that my brother Rich aforenamed shall have them half of all my said leases with the appurtenances as also all then half of all my goods moveable and unmoveable anything before mentioned to the contrary notwithstanding Item I give to my brother Richard Thurnebecke my cart with the shop tools and the cart gears Item I give to Thomas Atkinson son of Richard Atkinson one bullock either with calf or else a calf by her side and profit that comes of her in four years next after my decease to be equally divided between his sister Hellen Atkinson and him the said Thomas Item I give to my brother Robert Thurnebecke his children one cow bullock with calf to be equally divided amongst them all Item I give to Thomas Hamp my man 6s. 8d. Item I give to Katherene Mathewe my maiden 3s. 4d. Item I give to my said brother Richard Thurnebecke my black coat Item I give the rest of my apparel unbequeathed to the said Thomas Atkinson Item my will is that my said brother Rich Thurnebecke shall have the one half of all such goods and chattels moveable and unmoveable which she the said Margarett my wife shall happen to have being now my proper goods at day of departure of this present world Item I give to my cousin Richard Atkinson 3s. 4d. Item I give more to my brother Rich: Thurnebecke all my right title interest and term of years as I or my wife aforesaid may or ought to assign after our or either of our decease in the house with the appurtenances where I now dwell Item I give more to my said brother Richard Thurnebecke the going and feeding of a gelding or mare and one bullock in my said Cerk during the lease Also I give my said brother Richard one acre of arable land in Cosgrave field for three years next after my decease paying my said wife 7s. and this my will is that the said acre shall stand and be for one of thakers which he ought to have in the fields of the said Cosgrave next after the three years of my departure Anything before mentioned to the contrary notwithstanding Item I give to my cousin Hellen Atkinson the iron cupboard and the spit after my said wive's decease Also I give to Mary Nicholls the great brass pot after my said wive's decease the rest of my goods and chattels moveable and unmoveable unbequeathed my debts and funerals discharged I give to Margarett Thurnbecke my wife whom I make my whole and sole executrix of this my last Will and Testament and I ordain my landlord Richard Addington and my brother Thurnebecke overseers of this my last Will and Testament and I give either of them for their pains 20d. In witness whereof I have caused this my last Will to be made and put to my hand and seal the day and year first above written in the presence of Thomas Saxbe Richard Addington and Rich Scryvener
